It's tough for the Australian squad to break new ground.

The top summits have long been mastered.

This is the squad that has won seven Cricket World Cups, plus an additional six T20 titles, and previously enjoyed nearly four years unbeaten in 50-over cricket.

The alternative records, targeted by the peak baggers, are the only things left for a side that has accomplished all there is.

That it took as late as Sunday's success by three wickets over India for them to complete their first ODI chase over 300, regaining their record for the biggest in the female 50-over format, is, frankly, a testament to the bowling attack that have sported the yellow jersey over the last half-century.

It's difficult for their batsmen to hold a record if not provided the chance.

Ultimately, the result of Australia conceding 330 was captain Alyssa Healy getting an opportunity to produce her most recent brilliance.

Initially recognized as the young family member of renowned former Aussie wicketkeeper Ian, she made her debut in 2010 after Australia didn't secure either of the T20 or ODI World Cups conducted earlier and has seen it all through 15 championship-filled years since.

A T20 championship victory happened three months after her bow and seven global championships have followed from 10 attempts across formats.

The gritty keeper was present as well in Derby in 2017 when a semi-final setback by India momentarily interrupted the run of success.

That loss "drove us to reevaluate our levels," Healy commented earlier.

At the next 50-over World Cup in New Zealand, Healy hit 170 against England in the championship match and was declared player of the series. She made sure her country would not come up short.

Whether this latest epic knock topped that previous effort is debatable.

Many contend the argument supporting championship match pressure. Some might respond with the test that comes when facing a record target and a loud pro-India audience of 20,000.

What is certain is this hundred was much more difficult to see coming.

The Christchurch carnage in 2022 came as she topped the run-scoring charts, but this innings came after six matches in India from the beginning of the previous month in which she had failed to pass 30.

"If you've observed me in practice sessions, it has been a frustrating experience because it seemed my form was missing at all," stated Healy.

"However when you step out on the field, your fighting spirit take over and you completely engage with the match."

Healy's competitive nature has consistently been her great strength - and an irreplaceable characteristic in replacing legendary former captain Meg Lanning.

She was challenged by India's promising player Kranti Gaud in last month's ODI series, dismissed by the 22-year-old seamer in each encounter, but this time it merely gave Healy's inspiration.

A single came off the opening delivery and from there the right-hander was underway.

"An opportunity to play and engage in competition with her and simply enjoy myself in that regard, sort of got me going," said Healy.

She achieved fifty in 35 pitches - her quickest at the global tournament - and her ton in 84 balls as she punished short deliveries, scoring 21 fours and three maximums.

Once she was dismissed the team needed 66 additional runs at one run per ball - an achievable target now demanding an easy conclusion.

"Pursuing 330 is uncharted waters so I am glad we have the confidence to do that now," added Healy.

"Hopefully we don't have to do it again but, if we do, we know we can achieve it."

That comment will be the final thing rival teams at this championship need to hear.

In recent days a belief they will triumph from any situation has grown stronger - this victory coming after victory over Pakistan by 107 run margin despite being 76-7 at one point.

Next Australia play Bangladesh before a match against longtime competitors England in Indore in 10 days, by which point a semi-final place may probably be guaranteed.

It was at that stage they were eliminated from the previous year's T20 World Cup in an unexpected loss by South Africa - a match Healy couldn't play because of ruptured tissue in her foot as she led her country for the initial instance at a significant event.

So strong is her resolve, she afterwards commented she wished she had played with the discomfort.

But while she afterwards confessed those injuries have delayed thoughts of retirement, this championship is anticipated as her last as captain in one-day cricket and she is still to achieve a global event as captain.

Triumph in India would lead her to the peak of her ultimate challenge.
